The Treaty of Versailles
- The Treaty of Versailles actually brought the German people closer together!
- The German people were really angry that the allies put all the guilt for the war on Germany and felt that their punishments were extremely harsh and came together because they felt they were discriminated against due to these extremely harsh terms
- This led to nationalism in Germany as people began to work really hard to earn money to help their country pay off their debt
- In Germany, the social effects actually helped the people of the country come closer together against one problem, the punishment handed to Germany through the Treaty of Versailles
- The social effects in the Unites States during the Great Depression were far worse than those in Germany
- During the Great Depression, many migrants were coming to America and starting to reshape the country. This time period wasn't the best for people to move to the country as crime rates rose and high unemployment rates led to people having to steal food just to put something on the table
- People started to become very anxious and this led to a rise in alcoholism
- This increase in alcoholism led to the prohibition which was a ban on alcohol but people still found ways of selling alcohol
- Even though times were tough, people still tried to make the best of the situation by going to the movies at least once a week
- Movies were a way to entertain the family for long periods of time and weren’t to expensive, less than $.30 per ticket
- The social effects of the Great Depression and the Treaty of Versailles are very different, the effects of the Treaty of Versailles actually bringing the people of Germany together while the effects of the Great Depression led to a rise in the crime rate and alcoholism.
