- The treaty placed all of the guilt on Germany and the Allies, particularly France and England wanted Germany to pay for all the damage
- The Treaty of Versailles forced Germany to pay about 6,000,000 pounds in reparations ($81,000,000 currently) but this was money they didn't have
- This sent Germany into dire straits and led to a depression and eventually to Hitler's rise to power
